The two weeks in Kuala Lumpur was an amazing project that is continuing to be sustained by the National University of Malaysia’s Speech and Language Pathology department.
Our team of ten partnered with the university students and teachers in three special needs schools:
- Kiwanis Down Syndrome National Center
- Kuala Lumpur school for Autism
- The Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor & Federal Territory
Simultaneously, we trained the special needs teachers and the speech therapy students in assessment, curriculum development and constructing communication systems using mobile technology. Thanks to your generous donations, The Nika Project was able to refurbish eight iPads and two iPods as assistive technology devices, as well as provide a projector to the three schools. Currently, there are offsite clinics at each school where students in the SLP Program are providing services. In addition, two clinicians are conducting their theses on the project.
Stay tuned for more updates and future projects!
